Cruising up or down the river we offer different boat options to suit private and scheduled trips. View game, birds and of course the Murchison Falls from one of our river craft. We offer in addition sunrise and sunset cruises, Fishing trips and lots more....
Boat cruise times vary with different boat type and visitor requirements. The voyage to the Falls runs daily and visitors can be accommodated on the scheduled trip or alternatively on exclusive, private trips for a duration preferred. We are also happy to arrange other cruises on a boat suited to your group size. A few options are described below: -
- Paraa - Murchison Falls (2-3 hours). The cruise upriver from our headquarters at Paraa to view Murchison Falls at the head of the Fajao Gorge has been the park’s most popular attraction since the 1950s. Large resident populations of hippos and crocodiles, as well as visiting wildlife are found along the way, Birdlife includes a wide range of waterbirds and a huge colony of cliff-nesting red throated bee eaters.
Boat trip departure times
Daily scheduled boat trip to bottom of the falls 14.30 hours daily.
Christmas schedule 17th December 2010 to 9th January 2011.
- Nile delta cruise (3-5 hours). The Victoria Nile delta, a 20km voyage downstream from Paraa, is home to rare wetland birds including shoebill and papyrus endemic species.
- Fishing excursions. The mighty Nile River at Murchison is famous for its exciting sport fishing. Large , strong Nile Perch living in the turbulent waters below the Falls as well as several species of cat fish are fished and a variety of smaller species whch are generally used as live bait for the larger fish. Fishing can be done from the shore or from our boats which are ideally sized and equipped to cope with the conditions and accessing the remote riverside pools. Our experineced guides travel with you on the river at all times to ensure you have the best opportunities for success, wether it be for for a day or over several days.
- Sundowner cruises (90 minutes). As the heat disappears from the day, our craft take you to visit the hippos and crocodiles on the Nyamsika sandbar before drifting back downstream with a glass of wine and snacks.
- Sunrise with the hippos (1 hour) – an early start to see the riverside world come to life.
- Cruise and Safari. Your park experience can be enhanced by combining river voyages with prearranged vehicle pick ups. Travel by boat to the delta and return to Paraa with a game drive through the game-rich Buligi area. Or leave your boat in Fajao Gorge and climb to the Top of the Falls for the view down into the thunderous chasm, before returning to Paraa by vehicle.
